What’s it all about?
Open Studios Cornwall is Cornwall’s largest free art event, which opens its doors for a week long art extravaganza to celebrate one of the country’s most creative art scenes. Bringing together artists both up-and-coming and established, the event sees nearly 200 artists open their studio doors and offers a rare opportunity to explore behind the scenes of the wonderful world of art.
What happens?
Artists and craftspeople open their studio doors to the public for one week in May.
During that time, Open Studios Cornwall takes visitors on a tour of unseen Cornwall, into remote cottages and chapels, beach side studios and historic buildings, often far from the tourist trail. The opportunity to meet the artists behind the work, discuss their inspirations and shop for truly distinct finds, is an enriching experience for all.
Many of the studios are family friendly and offer beautiful gardens and locations to keep the kids busy whilst parents quiz the artist on a particular technique they use. The event also gives visitors the rare chance to attend one-on-one workshops with the artists and learn specialist techniques in a variety of disciplines from painting to jewellery making.
The event spans the entire length of the county, and with so many artists taking part this year, there are a variety of skillsets involved – sculptors, painters, illustrators, potters and printmakers just to name a few.
From experiences such as chatting with nationally acclaimed sculptors about their inspiration to learning how to make jewellery in quirky workshops, there will be an Open Studio to explore wherever your base may be.
