Find your way with Clay
A pinch pottery course with Hannah Lawrence
Thursday evenings 7-9pm
From the 24th of October till the 28th of November.
In this six week course we will explore many different kinds of pinch pottery techniques, starting with Neolithic to Bronze Age styles influenced and informed by the first potters of the British isles as a foundation. Then gradually moving on towards stoneware clays that can be glazed for more exploration into contemporary and individual styles. These can act as a foundation to get you confident enough to make at home!
We will start with the basics of form and simple vessels and move onto handles, spouts and lids. The outcome will be beautiful, functional pots that you can use at home for food and drinks.
Glazing and firing of your wares is available at an extra cost of £1 per 100g of fired work (approximately £3 per mug).
Tea, coffee and materials are included.
Hannah Lawrence is a local ceramicist who specialises in “Pinch Pottery”. Formerly the owner and founder of “folklore” a small but thriving craft shop on the Old High Street of Falmouth. Her work is inspired by the traditional pottery of England, Africa, Japan and Egypt and aspires towards the art of wood firing. For now Hannah uses local clays and wood ash glazes.
Teaching is an important part of Hannah’s practice as pinching techniques can be much more accessible than wheel thrown pottery. This results in a quick learning curve for students and satisfying results.
