Discover silk painting and create colourful works inspired by the flowers and plants in the gardens and greenhouses.
The two day course offers the opportunity to explore the French technique of painting on silk with gutta gum as a resist for the design. We practise the steam fix method, where the dyes are translucent. All aspects of the painting and fixing will be covered enabling participants to continue at home.
The first day we practise, working towards finishing a chosen piece on the second day. The workshop begins with a demonstration to explain all the methods of the application of the dyes, salt and alcohol effects, and the layering of the dyes. You will learn the essential skills and experience the process which can be practised to make successful pieces .
